This project took place at an iconic Gothic Revival house in Highgate, London, dating back to 1880.
The house is notable for its symmetrical design, which is somewhat unusual for this architectural style. The exterior required significant attention, particularly in the form of timber repairs and restoration.
The repairs were carried out using the Repair Care system, a specialized method for timber restoration. As fully trained experts, the team was able to accurately diagnose the issues and follow the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure proper repairs. This included the replacement of rotten timber on the windows, ensuring both the aesthetic and structural integrity of the property were restored.
For the painting and exterior finishes, Zinsser products were selected due to their high-performance qualities:
- Zinsser AllCoat® Exterior Gloss (Solvent-Based) was used on all joinery. This mould-resistant, long-lasting gloss paint offers up to 15 years of protection on all suitably primed exterior surfaces, particularly wood. It provides excellent resistance to cracking, blistering, chalking, and flaking, ensuring that the joinery stays protected from the elements.
- For the masonry, Zinsser AllWeather Exterior Masonry Paint was applied. This paint is known for its outstanding resistance to cracking, blistering, and flaking, while offering protection against rain and severe weather conditions. It also boasts excellent colour retention and dries even in low temperatures, allowing for year-round application and a long-lasting finish.
By using these high-performance products, the project ensured both the preservation and protection of this historic property, maintaining its Gothic Revival character while ensuring it will withstand the elements for years to come.
