The Narrowboat Pavo, originally built in 1935 at Woolwich Docks, is now permanently installed in the Canalside piazza at Grand Union, North West London.

A comprehensive restoration and finishing project was undertaken both externally and internally to preserve the boat’s charm and enhance its appearance.

External Work:

The hull section of the boat was treated with Black Bitumen paint, a durable coating designed to protect the boat’s exterior from the elements and provide a sleek, uniform finish.

Internal Work:

The entire interior of the boat was finished with Zinsser Allcoat Satin, providing a high-quality, satin finish that ensures both protection and aesthetic appeal in the interior spaces.
The floors were carefully sanded back to their original state, restoring their natural beauty. Liberon wood dye was then applied to bring back the wood’s original color, followed by the application of a polyurethane varnish to provide long-lasting protection and a smooth, durable surface.

This restoration project combined preservation with modern finishes to maintain the boat’s historical integrity while ensuring its longevity and visual appeal in its new permanent location.
